Elie Shamir’s large canvases repeatedly depict the figures of the founding fathers of Kfar Yehoshua in the Jezreel Valley – including his own father and grandfather. The gradual erosion in the values of working the land and cooperative community is reflected in the family story of aging and parting from the artist’s father and grandfather and reflects in turn on the ethos built surrounding the founders and values of the pioneers of the Valley. Shamir’s paintings and drawings explore, through dialogue with the Great Masters of art, his own world, thereby offering a portrait of an entire society and culture. Read more
